The classic green Rapé of the Apurinã people is made with Awiry, a native Amazonian plant that grows in the river beds which is only found in the dry season. It is considered a live or raw Rapé, where the leaves are not fermented as is done in common rapé. There is no ash, only Awiry leaves, which are dried in the sun and then ground. This is a unique medicine and is eferred to as a Rapé of Light. Apurina Awiri has a flowery scent and smells like being in the middle of the jungle. Very opening and deeply subtle.

About Rapé
Rapé (also hapé) is a finely ground blend of medicinal plants and ash. It’s most widely used in Brazil, though the Matses in Peru also have a green version with uncured mapacho. It is believed to go back to the time of the Incas. It can help focus the mind, release emotional, physical, energetic and spiritual illnesses, align the chakras, connect to higher consciousness and ground the body.

While traveling to the jungle to ensure cultivation, preparation, sale and shipment processes is not possible, we ask as many questions as we can to ensure all are in alignment with our values. We work with women suppliers and preparers when possible to support their livelihoods. We also buy from suppliers that have a well known reputation for highest quality products. Wankawi is driven by sustainability, in all senses. If any of these medicines become endangered, or we hear of unethical or ecologically destructive practices, we will discontinue offering these medicines. The foremost important aspect of working with these medicines is to listen - to the plants themselves, the Wisdom of the Earth and the communities and traditions from which they originate. Only when we take care of the entire system, can we truly heal, thrive and create a new world.
