Intimacy, Safety and Protection

On my walk today, I was thinking about 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗬, 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗧𝗬 and 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡. When I say intimacy, I mean all types - physical, emotional, mental, energetic, and spiritual. In all aspects of life.

We humans, especially those of us sensitive ones, can get triggered when intimacy happens too fast, or without our awareness. This can be with people, events,  situations, plants, animals, spirits, anything. I remember seeing a quote recently that said "Intimacy without safety isn't intimacy, it's trauma." In a triggered space, we can't function to the best of our ability - we are caught in an old (or trauma) response.

As we are learning to open our hearts to who we truly are, we shed the old layers of protection we created long ago. The protective measures we instilled by instinct, as a reaction, as something to keep us safe in unsafe environments. But we didn't have anyone then to help us make it safe. So we did it unconsciously, to keep us alive.

As we heal these parts of ourselves, we still need to have protection and safety. We need those who've been down the path before, those who have our best interests in their hearts to help us unravel the old protection in a safe place. They hold the space for us to do so, as we are learning  to create our own protection from a different place. These can be people - friends, teachers, mentors, and community and they can be plants, animals, or places on the Earth that we have developed relationships with.

We 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 protection and safety for our healing and to keep us as clear channels for whatever we are bringing into the world. We re-learn to develop a new kind of protection and safety coming from our hearts, our truth, our own knowing. And we have to stand up for what we need and create conditions that serve us well, in the ways that we couldn't do before.

Some people are not experiencing safety and protection in the plant medicine world. This, just as life, has its place in the unraveling and healing of our hearts and the collective. 𝗔𝗡𝗗 when we are doing deep healing, it goes a long way to seek out places where we feel safe to begin to let go of our old protections, to be vulnerable, to be in the midst of transformation, bringing our precious hearts into the world.

Take care of yourselves! Even with the plant medicines...

Starting in a few weeks, I'll be facilitating a small intimate group - the 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘.
