I've seen a few posts on social media lately coming down on plant medicines. It's interesting, as to me, it shows that some people are really missing the point.
The negative perceptions that people are using the medicines to "escape," "get high," boost their images (egos) and be the ultimate cultural "cool" gives the plants themselves a bad reputation. But it's not about the plant medicines themselves, but about the people. People are "mis-using" and "abusing" these medicines which are revered as very sacred by the indigenous and those who understand their magic and power. All of us are bringing our personal shadow, the collective and cultural shadow, with us to the plants. The plants are pure and truthful in their expression. It's the human aspects that the plants are bringing to light. Let's recognize the difference. Some people working with plants continue operating in shadow, not doing the courageous work to see it, own it and transform. We see entire medicine communities operating out of alignment with the sacred. The plants are only highlighting where there is still work to be done. And there's a lot of it. Working with plants is about 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 - including relationship to self, to the sacred, and to the plants. All in one the same. If we work with plants as sacred sacraments and truly respect them, they will open up to share with us their miraculous healing, their magic, their ancient wisdom. But we have to also work through the not-so-glamourous times of truly facing our shadows. Just like any relationship. Let's do our work, and let the plants do theirs.

How to honor and respect Amazonian Indigenous traditions? The people, their ancestors, their wisdom, and the ecosystems of the Earth from which many plant medicines come. Many of us are working with indigenous traditional medicine - something that collectively we've brought our Western consumerist mindsets and values to. We've taken it and made it our own. (What has been happening in the plant medicine world as it propagates the West deserves a deeper examination and conversation.) How can we support the communities? Their livelihoods, their health, their lands that are deeply impacted. I know many are working in this area- some of you on the ground. Thank you. None of it is perfect, but we start where we can. Our energy of gratitude and our resources bring awareness to the reciprocity and repair that is needed... From the sales of the plant medicines, textiles and jewelry this year, I am returning as much as I can back to organizations that support the communities. Here's who I'm supporting. All have incredible missions. 𓆸 𝗔 𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗬: What we discover on the journey of diving into ourselves, the journey of working with plants, is we have everything we need inside. It already exists. What this world needs is all of us embodying and claiming our OWN WISDOM. Plant medicines take us on the hero/ine's journey deep into the unknown. We leave the world we know behind. This exploration of consciousness - of who we are, what life is, what the world is - is a calling humans have been following since the beginning. Our initiation into the unknown takes tremendous courage. It's a solitary journey, where we dig deep and uncover parts of ourselves we didn't know existed. And yet it's a journey we collectively share. We are alone and yet not alone. The wisdom we gain, we are tasked with integrating it back into our human lives. We bring what we learned, embody it and live each moment from a new way of being. This is how we make the changes we wish to see in the world. 𓆸 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗧𝗛: We discover new aspects of ourselves by leaning into the discomfort, riding the frontier of our consciousness, and charting into new territory. We grow by continuing to stay in the practice of being present with our experiences. 𓆸 𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Through physical and energetic practices, sharing, and expression, we embody the multi-dimensional experiences of working with the plant - in our human life. 𓆸 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: Through self-refection and awareness, we discover new meaning and insight that offer our lives vision and purpose. 𓆸 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: Plants re-ignite waves of inspiration and creative life force. When taking inspired action - putting this energy into form in the world- we experience fulfillment, satisfaction and joy. 𓆸 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘: All experiences in life are arising in perfect timing for us to learn from. Sometimes, life, ceremony and integration do not go as we expect - we are disappointed, hold resentment, or feel hopeless. Accepting these situations as teachings, we develop strength, compassion and courage to keep healing and letting go of what no longer serves us. 𓆸 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Shadow elements - things that have previously been unseen- return to forefront of consciousness to be seen, felt and released. As more is unearthed, it does not not mean we are backsliding, but continuing the spiral into deeper healing. This includes challenging experiences (fear, shame, resistance, denial, rejection, projection, judgment, criticism, cynicism, disbelief, distrust, anger, rage, grief, loneliness, illusions, and conditioning). We stay committed to the process, and see these as opportunities for healing, learning and expansion. 𓆸 𝗗𝗘𝗘𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗧: As we move through challenges, we deepen our trust in self, the plants and spirit. Sometimes, when the fear (or other emotion) is strong, we run away, back into the comfort of old pattern. We have compassion; we do not judge or criticize ourselves and we give ourselves time and space. We stay with the feelings - express them, feel them in the body so that they can be healed. We create and seek out safety to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and go deeper, in our own timing, and with the support we need. ✧・゚: ✧・゚: I'm one of those sensitive, empathic beings, who's struggled to feel safe and comfortable in my own body and energy. I never identified as such, until I learned that what I feel in my body was actually much a reflection of what was happening in my environment (and vice versa). I was receiving so much subtle information all the time. I didn't know how to digest and interpret it. I was overstimulated and overwhelmed. It took its toll on my physical, emotional and mental health. I was always in management mode - trying to manage and mitigate the feelings and sensations, insomnia, constipation, anxiety, stress... When I was introduced to the world of plant medicines, I felt I'd finally found a home. They way of the plants - the subtle ways of learning and experiencing everything reassured me - that the sensitivity was a beautiful gift - and that it would be a long journey to learn how it all worked. The second home coming was when I discovered there was a word for what I'd been feeling all along - energy! (or prana or qi in Eastern traditions). The energetic life flow that moves through and pervades everything on this planet- including plants, humans, animals, microorganisms, the galaxy, and the vast unseen. I'd found my calling - learning how to perceive the universal energy of life all around us and how the plants healed and shared wisdom through their energetic vibration and their spirit. All in service of guiding us to live in harmony on Mother Earth. I've been on a long journey for the last 15 years, reclaiming my sensitivity through shamanic plant medicine work, energy medicine, yogic practices, and attuning to the energies of the earth. It's taken healing the old wounding, unravelling collective conditioning and learning the "secret" ways of the universe. I feel more confident about who I am, and how to operate in this world. Our modern world has lost touch with the energetic and spiritual understanding of life. Many of us are opening to these experiences and learning that we live in a much more intricate and beautiful world than we once thought! But it takes a journey of digging deep and letting go to truly embody these gifts. For the last 8 years, I've been supporting people in understanding their sensitivities and abilities to perceive energy and information. Some people are deep in the plant medicine world, and some are simply energetically aware people on a deep spiritual journey to reclaim who they are. If you want to learn more about how I can help reconnect you to your own energetic system, your spirit, and your innate wisdom, please check out my offerings. I have openings for 1:1 support, energy work, mentoring, plant medicine integration and intuitive readings. Send me a message for a free 20 min conversation to talk about what's going on in your life! ✧・゚: ✧・゚ For the past week, this gorgeous golden goddess and I have been journeying together. I've opened a "soft dieta" with an Amazonian tumeric, which is a way of setting up a sacred container to get to know the plant on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.
Tumeric is one of these magical plants that has been used for thousands of years. As I start researching it more, the history of it's use is truly magnificent. There's evidence of tumeric being used 4,000 years ago in India, where it was and still is also revered as very sacred. The first written records from Ancient Egypt (1500 BC) indicated using the root of this plant as medicine. Many traditional medicine systems that are highly respected today, such as Ayurveda, Chinese Medicines and Unani, all use tumeric for the infinite healing properties it offers. Tumeric has been extensively researched and known to reduce inflammation, support the immune system, is anti-bacterial, anti-tumor, oxidant, anti-viral (There are new studies showing tumeric is an active anti-viral against Covid infection), and the list goes on. It also supports emotional states and mood (including depression), improves memory, and can help prevent Alzheimer's and dementia. Spiritually, tumeric brings purity, fertility, and prosperity. It embodies the sun, offers protection, healing, and cleanses the energy field and subtle body. I've felt a gentleness and strength of this Golden Goddess, bringing into a more balanced state of body-mind-spirit. She's filling my cells with nourishing sunlight, and allowing old patterns, toxins, and energies to be alchemized with ease and grace! ✦ ✧ If you are interested in the profound experience of a soft dieta, there's still time to join a dieta with 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗜, which begins November 24. Read more here!
This fall, many things I'd planned fell through, leaving me with spaciousness to re-evaluate what it is I am following. The attachments to plans and outcomes, or the internal guidance system of the body and spirit and divine right timing.
What has been needed is 𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and renewal of body-mind-spirit. I've had a lot of mineral baths, long walks, good home cooked food, going to bed early, oil massage, and conversation with good friends... I've opened a "soft dieta" with tumeric. I've felt this plant working on a cellular level, going deep into the darkness, pulling out old energies and toxins. I've noticed my nervous system relax, showing me how amped up it actually is on a daily basis. With less anxiety, I am sleeping more fully, dropping into feeling 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱. I am more present with myself, open to the moment as it unfolds. Bringing in a gentleness; a more balance approach to life. One of the biggest lessons seems to be that tumeric is teaching me to flow in deeper trust - of myself, life, the great mystery we are all in. A friend asked me about these dietas last night, and I found myself sharing that working with these plants in this way, brings me into my body, in the present time. Setting up a sacred container, consciously taking the plant into my body, and working with its energy and consciousness, is such a beautiful process for healing, learning about myself, and becoming more embodied and in the moment. Something we could all use at this time of year. ༺ There's still a few spaces left for a soft dieta with 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗜, that begins November 24. This is a perfect medicine to give to yourself, be supported and totally nourished. Reishi is wonderful for the immune system, mental health and rejuvenating the energy body. ༺ See more here, and email me if you are interested! ༺♥༻ |
